A Quantum of Thought : Book review by LoveReading...

Action, thrills and gun fights across Venice fill this gripping thriller as a scientist and her MI5 protector fight to keep scientific advancement fall into the wrong hands.

Manisha Williams is a brilliant Oxford Professor following in her father’s footsteps with her work to develop a new thought technology that could be ground-breaking for stroke victims. But she knows the full potential of her work and is determined not to see it fall into anyone’s hands that could use it to access thoughts for nefarious purposes. The UK Government, under the guise of national security are secretly funding Manisha’s research, appointing Alex Laing from the MI5 as covert protection from Heyel, a dangerous organization who also have their eyes on Manisha.

A Quantum of Thought reads like a sci-fi James Bond story, with secret agents, double crossing and explosive boat races across Venice. I liked how the author included philosophical excerpts about thought and reality at the start of each chapter. I felt like this was a great technique to subtly ground the concept of Manisha’s work and make it feel authentic. Manisha and Alex are both interesting characters, both strong and competent in their own field while also both having backstories that delivered some depth, I thought that they worked really well together on the page. A high-octane narrative that delivers equally on the science and the thrills, this is a great story for anyone looking for an entertaining action read.

What happens when you literally think something into existence? This book takes that question, cranks it up to eleven, and then sets it loose in a high-stakes game of science meets suspense. Manisha Williams isn’t just playing with particles, she’s bending reality. And the fallout? Yeah, it’s explosive.

The story kicks off in the halls of Oxford, but it quickly spirals into a thriller that feels like Inception got cozy with a TED Talk. Manisha’s groundbreaking research into consciousness and quantum mechanics turns into a wild ride of espionage, shadowy agendas, and the kind of paranoia that has you side-eyeing your smart speaker.

A.D. Quinton doesn’t just hand you sci-fi fluff; the science feels legit. But don’t worry, it’s wrapped in enough danger and drama to keep your brain busy without frying it. You’ll question reality, loyalty, and maybe your last few Google searches.

What makes it stand out? Manisha. She’s brilliant, bold, and so not your typical “woman in STEM” stereotype. She’s in charge, under pressure, and constantly two steps from being betrayed. Loved that she was smart without being cold, emotional without being a mess.

If you like your thrillers with brains, heart, and just a touch of existential panic, A Quantum of Thought is the mind-bending ride you didn’t know you needed.
